Planes Party

Months ago, I asked the kids what kind of birthday party they wanted.  Lucinda immediately asked for a farm party, and Malcolm agreed.

So we planned a farm party for the Saturday after their birthday.

A month before the their birthday, Malcolm declared that he would not have a farm party.  He was having a truck party.  He could not be swayed, but he eventually conceded that we could have the farm party the weekend after their birthday, if he also got to have a small truck party on his actual birthday.  Fine, easy enough. I bought some truck stuff and planned for a small family dinner at home.

Two weeks later, Malcolm declared that he would not be having a truck party.  He was having a Planes party.  I'd say "I'm so excited about your truck party, buddy!" and he'd respond "no, mama. I'm having a planes party."  Then he started telling people about the Planes party he was going to have. Thankfully Amazon has a good selection of cheap Planes party decor available with two-day shipping ;)

So, on Wednesday (their actual birthday), Uncle Adam, Aunt Julia and Taylor came over for our Planes party.  We had dinner (macaroni and cheese, of course) and cupcakes.

The highlight for Malcolm was when he finally got Bulldog, another plane from the Planes movie to add to his collection. Matt promised him a month ago that he could have Bulldog for his birthday, so he's been telling everyone who will listen that the only thing he wants for his birthday is Bulldog (which has led to me explaining repeatedly that no, we are not getting a dog).

They loved the crowns they got from school (so much that Lucinda even wore hers to school the next day).

Malcolm and Lucinda also got their "big" birthday presents from us -- balance bikes!  They both jumped right on them, and love their "big kid bikes." :)

This may be a good point to pause so we can all admire Malcolm's outfit.  When Matt got to preschool to pick them up that afternoon, Malcolm was wearing no shirt, a pair of Lucinda's (way too small) leggings, and yelling that Ms. Roxanna was trying to trick him.  Apparently he'd had a little accident and his clothes had gotten wet. She tried to change him into his backup clothes but couldn't find any pants in his cubby (mom fail) so grabbed Lucinda's pants, and then tried to change him into his backup t-shirt, which set off WWIII since he had worn his special Planes shirt to school that day so he'd have it on for his party.  No way was he taking that shirt off.  So, he came home in a slightly damp shirt, his sister's leggings, and a birthday crown.

Taylor brought her cousins a special birthday cake for their birthday!  They loved blowing out the candles and serving everyone a slice!

While I wasn't planning on having two parties, I'm really glad Malcolm insisted that we have the Planes party, since we all had lots of fun!
