Lucinda's School Play

Lucinda has been really interested in letters, sounds and rhyming for a while and about six months ago, the kids' preschool teacher Ms. Lisa mentioned to me that she thought Lucinda would really enjoy and do well in the supplemental phonics class that the school offers.  She did a trial class - we were a bit unsure because she's the youngest in the program - and she loved it and she adores Mrs. Angelica who teaches the class.  So two to three times a week, Lucinda has her "Miss 'Jelica class".  They work on writing letters, recognizing letter sounds and patterns and basic reading skills.  It's been great.

Over the summer, the school has "summer camp" (which seems a lot like regular preschool with an extra fee plus a new orange t-shirt, but I digress).  The phonics class meets over the summer for "book club".  They've learned about all the different elements of a book (author, cover, spine, dedication page, plot, characters, etc) and have been keeping journals about the books they read.  At the end of that unit (they've moved onto poetry now), they put on a play of the story "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie."  Lucinda was so excited about the play - she was in charge of the straw - and about having mommy, daddy and Malcolm be in the audience.

It was pretty much the cutest thing ever!  Here are some pictures.  A video of the full performance is linked at the end.

After the play we went into Old Town for dinner and ice cream to celebrate a fantastic performance by our little Mouse!
