Nine Months

Malcolm & Lucinda are NINE months old!

They are growing so fast, and every day they seem less and less like babies.  It's getting harder to take good pictures of them, since they are always on the move, and Lucinda is obsessed with my camera and wants to grab it (plus this month they opted to eat their 9-month stickers, rather than wear them, so that part of the photo shoot was a total fail). 

Their big development over the past month was mobility.  They're both speed crawlers now, and love to crawl under and through whatever they can find.  Most of the time, of course, they speed off in different directions.  This weekend, however, they wanted to do everything at exactly the same time...

We love seeing them do things together, especially when they're being silly. 

We really hope they grow up to be the best of friends.

At 9 months, Lucinda Jean...

• weighs 17 lbs, 3.5 oz (22nd percentile -- a big jump!)
• is 26" tall (8th percentile)
• has a head circumference of 16.75" (13th percentile)

• has one tooth (bottom middle) and is working on a second.
• is very talkative.  Her first word was "dada" and now she regularly says "mama", "dada" and something we think is supposed to be "cat", although she doesn't always match up the word with the right person.  Most days, everything from me to the cat to the bathtub is "mama."
• is always on the go.  She pulls up on everything, and often holds on with only a light grip of one hand.  A couple times she's even let go for a few seconds.  She also likes to climb the stairs (with help, of course).

• eats 24-32 oz of formula a day, plus 3 solid meals.  She loves to feed herself and has little patience these days for spoon-fed purees.  Her favorite foods include macaroni & cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, black beans, steamed vegetables, bananas and cheerios.
• is obsessed with the cat.  Whenever she sees him, she shrieks in delight and sets off to get him.

 

•  Lucinda is such a silly girl, with such a fiesty spirit. She cracks us up all the time.

At 9 months, Malcolm Walter...

 

• weighs 23 lbs (85th percentile!)
• is 28.25" tall (53rd percentile)
• has a head circumference of 18.25" (80th percentile)

• has six teeth (two on bottom, four on top) and we think he's working on some more - the poor guy was up most of last night crying :(
• loves to bang his toys together or on the floor.  He does this so often that it's earned him a new nickname - Bam Bam.

• eats 32 oz of formula a day, plus 3 solid meals.  Hands down his favorite food is madarin oranges.  Malcolm would be happy eating nothing but mandarin oranges forever if we let him.  He'll hunt around his highchair tray and pick even the smallest pieces from among the other foods to make sure he got every last little bit.  Then he whines until he gets more.  He also likes pasta with tomato sauce, black beans, steamed veggies (especially carrots and green beans), and buttered toast.
• is also a big fan of the cat, but his current obsession is with the cat's food.  Every chance he gets he makes a bee line to the kitchen and tries to eat it.  He's been hearing a lot of "no".  He thinks its a very funny game.

• Malcolm is such a sweet boy.  He's mischevious at times, but he has such a kind temperment and everyone just falls in love with him.

They are at such a fun age now and we are having the best time!  I can't wait for their first Christmas - it's going to be a blast!
