Poor Buddy :(

Poor Malcolm started running a high fever over the weekend (around 102/103), and then a nasty cough developed and led to stridor, like he had when he had croup in February. He wasn't getting any better today, so I took him to the doctor this afternoon. Poor little guy tested positive for influenza-a, which is the flu that the flu shot (which he got!) is supposed to prevent. He also has an ear infection. All of that, plus the stridor, earned him another steroid shot, a 10-day course of antibiotics, and a 5-day course of Tamiflu.  Five pharmacies later, I finally found a compounding pharamcy that could make the children's suspension of tamiflu today, and they even delivered it to our house right in time to give him his first dose before bedtime.  (sidenote: it is a sad comment on the state of customer service that the pharmacy's offer to deliver medicine to my house for my sick child, at no charge, completely floored me).

The goal of the Tamiflu is to make the flu shorter and less severe. I hope it works -- it's so sad to see him sick. Doesn't he look sad? This is at the pediatrician's office this afternoon (where we spent 2 hours!), so you'll have to excuse the bad cell phone photo quality.
