Touch-a-Truck!

Malcolm and Lucinda, especially Malcolm, have been really into trucks, buses, and construction sites lately (never fear, trains still get much love around here).  Whenever we ride in the car, Malcolm tells us about every single truck he sees.  "School bus!"  "Fire truck!" "Dump truck!" "Green truck!"  "Big truck -- whoa!"  And when there are no trucks to be seen, he demands more, more trucks!  If he's hard up, he'll take an SUV and call it a truck, but his favorites are definitely fire trucks, school buses ("cool bus" which includes any type of bus), and dump trucks.

A couple weeks ago, there was a brush fire in the woods behind our house and I came home to find four fire trucks blocking our cul de sac, with their hoses out and everything.  Fortunately it wasn't threatening the houses, so we were able to enjoy the excitement.  And when you're two, nothing is more exciting than a fire truck at your house!

I came inside and told them there was a fire truck outside (they had just gotten up from their naps).  Malcolm   yelled "Calco fire truck!" and ran off to get his fire truck that Great Grandma brought him for his birthday.  Malcolm's fire truck in hand, we went out to check out the action.  They loved it.  Malcolm marched up and showed his fire truck to the fireman, who gave them both little plastic fire hats (telling them "if you're going to be on scene, you need your official fire hat!").  After a couple hours they got the fire out, and packed up the hoses and trucks.  Of course the next day, Malcolm wanted the big fire truck to come back...

We haven't needed the fire truck to come back to our house (thankfully), but yesterday we went to a Touch-A-Truck event and needless to say, it was a HUGE hit.  They got to sit in and "drive" a bus, a fire truck, and a snowplow truck!  They also played in the bed of an Army jeep and "drove" motorcycles.  Basically the best day ever if you're two years old.

Here they are on the way over, modeling their new sunglasses
(note that Malcolm again brought along his own fire truck to see the big fire truck):

Driving the bus, and honking the horn:

They had almost as much fun "riding" in the bus as they did driving it:

Driving the plow truck:

Riding motorcycles:

Then, after waiting semi-patiently in a long line...

It was time for the main attraction -- FIRE TRUCK!

What do you think -- does it look like this kid had fun?

Such a great way to spend the afternoon!
