On Christmas Eve, Lucinda and Malcolm picked out special cookies for Santa, carrots for Rudolph and the other reindeer, and made sure the stockings were hung by the chimney with care, then it was off to bed!
They must have been very good this year, because Santa brought them lots of presents.
Lucinda and Malcolm woke up around six on Christmas morning and ran into our room. They climbed up into bed with us and Lucinda whispered "it's Christmas!" and Malcolm whispered "Santa!" then we were off to the races.
Like last year, I set my camera up on the tripod with the remote so I could get a few shots of the chaos without worrying about holding the camera. Halfway through opening presents Lucinda noticed it, and decided it was a magic camera that would take your picture if you help up a Christmas present and smiled. So there are a disproportionate number of pictures of Lucinda cheesing it up with her toys this year :)
One of my favorite moments from Christmas was when the kids opened their gifts from each other. This year I took them each to the toy store separately and let them pick out something for each other. I think the biggest smiles from both of them came when Lucinda presented Malcolm with the gift she picked for him - Mack (from the Cars movie). He was so excited, and she was equally excited to give it to him. He chose paints, paintbrushes and paper for her since he knows she likes art.
There was your perfect Christmas morning chaos with small children. The kids would open a couple presents, get distracted by something they wanted to play with, and it would take a while to get back to opening presents.
Malcolm's big present from us was a Lego table, and Lucinda's was an art desk.
From Santa, Lucinda got her singing pickle, and Malcolm got his "baby cars and a mat for them to drive on" along with magnatiles, puzzles, musical instruments, new games, and a few other things. Grandma and Pap had big hits with a marble run and a cash register, as did Mimi and Poppy with their race car track and bead necklace kits.
Aunt Elena and Uncle Jimmy sent them a teepee, which led Lucinda to repeatedly yell "What?!?" and Malcolm to declare "no grownups allowed!" Bailey promptly declared it his new home.
After we'd finished opening our presents, we had a relaxing day at home playing with our new toys and cleaning up the disaster that used to be our living room. We had a delicious dinner, and then stopped by the Camerons for birthday pie to celebrate Laura's birthday.
On the day after Christmas, we headed into DC to see the National Christmas Tree at the White House, which is surrounded by trains running through little villages. There's a "money train" that runs all the way around the perimeter and people try to throw coins in the open cars. Malcolm got one in on his first try!
It was such a fun, magical Christmas this year, and I'm sad to see it end, but I know 2015 will have amazing things in store for us all, and I can't wait to see what unfolds.
