We've just returned from 8 days in Disney World and we all had the BEST time. It was all around a fantastic family vacation, and we cannot wait to go back. We stayed in a one bedroom villa at Wilderness Lodge and it was just perfect for us. Plenty of space, a full kitchen, a fantastic pool, and so convenient to everything.
We arrived on Saturday September 19th. Our flight was at 8:30 am, so it was a bit of an early start. Matt and I set two alarms for 5:30 am to make sure we didn't oversleep. Unfortunately we set BOTH alarms to go off only on weekdays, so neither went off. Thankfully I woke up around 5:45 anyway, so we got to the airport in time and we were on our way to Orlando! We landed around 11, collected our luggage and rental car, and hit the road. About half an hour later, we pulled into the beautiful Wilderness Lodge.
After quickly dropping our bags off with the bellhop, we grabbed delicious sandwiches at the Roaring Fork and then headed out to the dock to catch the boat to Magic Kingdom. One of my favorite things (among many) about the Wilderness Lodge was the boat ride to MK. It took about 5 minutes, there was never a very long wait, and it was so relaxing. Whenever we could, we sat in the bow of the boat so we could feel the breeze as we sailed along Bay Lake. Plus, the boat dropped us off right outside the main entrance to the park - it couldn't have been more convenient!
The first day, we planned to spend just a few hours at the park to show the kids what it was all about and get them excited for the rest of the week (no need there, they were plenty excited already!). We rode Under the Sea with our fast pass, then hit Barnstormer (bit hit!), cooled off at the Casey Jr. Splash Station and met Goofy and Donald at Pete's Silly Sideshow.
We also rode Peter Pan's Flight, which was really fun, and It's a Small World. Malcolm was so excited that he saw chess pieces on It's A Small World!
Our final fast pass was for Enchanted Tales with Belle, which was really cute. The kids were all assigned parts and got to perform a special play with Belle. M&L were salt shakers! Even Matt was picked for a part -- he played one of the suits of armor!
After we finished up with Belle, we headed back to the boat and back to Wilderness Lodge to check out our room (we had checked in online weeks earlier, and had already received a text message with our room number. Our magic bands opened the room, so we didn't even have to stop at the front desk!). We only had time for a quick stop in our room before heading down to dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe.
This dinner was so fun! They bill it as a "rootin' tootin' good time" and it didn't disappoint. Malcolm asked for a straw and our waitress said "here you go kid!" and threw about 30 straws on the table. The kids thought this was hilarious. But not nearly as funny as what happened when Lucinda asked for ketchup. The waitress made us all yell "we need ketchup!" and suddenly a family showed up from another table with 30+ bottles of ketchup and dumped them on our table. Before long, another family across the room shouted "we need ketchup!" and it was our turn to bring them ALL THE KETCHUP.
After dinner, we headed up to our room to unpack and get some rest so we'd be fresh for the fun week ahead!
