Wow - I'm so behind on the blog! Blame the usual suspects - two demanding four year olds who don't go to bed during the week until nearly 9:00 and a busy work life, coupled with a lot of travel - in any event, it's been harder to keep up as the kids get older. We still do lots of fun things, and I still take lots of pictures, but finding the time to sit down to write and share has been a challenge. I recently took all of our summer pictures off my camera and phone to free up space for our Disney World vacation, so let's review what we've been up to since our last post.
In May, Lucinda got glasses! She has an astigmatism (like Matt) and needs some distance correction. She's getting closer to reading, and we wanted to be sure she didn't have any trouble. She did great at the pediatric ophthalmologist, and picked out her own "pinky-purple" frames. She put them on and said "wow - everything looks so big!" She's been so good about wearing them and keeping them on. It probably helps that Matt and I both wear glasses daily, so she doesn't think it's strange at all. And she looks adorable with them!
Also in May, we celebrated Mother's Day. The kids made me adorable cards at school, and Malcolm made me a candle. Matt helped the kids decorate pages for my mother's day scrapbook, and they gave me some delicious dark salted chocolate and a gift card for a spa day. We spent the day at Burke Lake Park with the Ahlstroms playing and picnicking and riding the train. It was a great day!
And in June we celebrated Father's Day. The kids made Matt cards at school, we took our annual D-A-D photos and we bought him a bottle of scotch.
June also brought the end of another great year of preschool!
July kicked off with a bang as we celebrated the 4th of July with good friends. We went to the Fairfax parade with the Justices, and met up with Malcolm's BFF Deniz and his family. Later in the day, the Justices came over for dinner and fireworks, and Mayim stopped by for a bit to join in the fun!
July also brought a super fun beach vacation, which will get its own post.
In August, Aunt Elena came to visit and we went to the Friendship Firehouse Festival and spent time at the pool.
Mid-August took us to Pittsburgh to visit Grandma and Pap, Uncle Adam, Aunt Julia and Taylor. Much to the llamas' delight, Grandma had found a powerwheels at a yard sale! Turns out Lucinda has a lead foot! The kids loved cruising around the yard (and crashing into Grandma's garden) and spending time with their cousin, including a fun water balloon fight!
At the end of August we traveled to Ohio to visit my family, staying with Great Grandma Erma. We visited Kristy's shop in Tipp City on Friday, and Aunt Jodi and Uncle Don hosted the family for a pool party on Saturday. We had a blast visiting and catching up with everyone, and in fact had so much fun that we only took a couple pictures.
So, that's some of the big stuff that's been keeping us busy the past few months. It's been a very busy, but very fun, summer!
