Sixteen Months: Travelogue Edition

I think this is the first time in 16 months that I've missed a monthly update post... but I have a good excuse - we were on vacation!  Malcolm and Lucinda are 16 months old now!  And we celebrated with a 9-hour road trip to visit my family in Ohio over the 4th of July.

We went to a pool party at Aunt Jodi's, spent time swimming with Mimi & Poppy, and found a fun indoor playplace.  All important, since it was over 100 degrees all week.  Aunt Elena was there, too, and we had fun playing with her and catching up on her wedding plans.

Here are some pictures of the fun we had on our trip!

Bubbles!

At 16 months, Malcolm & Lucinda...
  • are both starting to use a lot more words, and mimic sounds.  Their words include "mama" "dada" "ba (ball)" "ca (cat)" "booboo (blueberries)" "momo (more)" "bubba (bubbles)" "cracra (cracker)" and they know lots of animal sounds, including monkey, duck, dog, tiger, and elephant.  They also continue to pick up signs quickly.
  • favorite toys include blocks, musical instruments, Little People, shape sorters, flash cards, and puzzles.  And books, of course.  They love books.
  • favorite foods include almost any fruit, broccoli, peas, chicken crescents, spinach ravioli, chicken nuggets, pb&j, goldfish and animal crackers.
  • are still working on mastering utensils and plates at mealtime, and they're getting better and more interested.
  • go up and down stairs, walk holding our hand, help get themselves dressed and undressed, stack blocks, scribble with crayons or their magnadoodles, throw and kick balls, point to body parts when named, and are starting to share with each other.  If Lucinda goes to get a toy, she'll regularly get two and give one to Malcolm.  For example, if she goes to get her stuffed Cookie Monster, she'll bring Elmo to Malcolm.  Malcolm has done it a couple of times, but he's still more inclined to steal from her than give her something nicely.
  • blow kisses, and give hugs and kisses when asked (and in the mood).  They're not always in the mood to give each other kisses, but when they are, it's absolutely adorable.  Malcolm chased Lucinda from room to room after their bath tonight, trying to kiss her.  So cute.
