Bethany Beach (Part 2)

Tuesday we decided to spend the morning at the pool rather than the beach.  Lucinda, as expected, had a blast.  She is such a water baby.  She spent most of the time swimming in the big pool "by herself" (with her puddle jumper) and even tried out goggles for the first time. 

 

 

 

 

Malcolm maintained his fear of the big pool and stuck by the baby pool.  All was going well until a poorly executed jump in resulted in him slamming his toe into the bottom of the pool and losing a toenail, which was pretty much the most devestating thing that had ever happend to him.  After lots of crying, he decided the best bet was to just fall asleep on mama and hope it was all better when he woke up (it's generally better, but definitely will take some time to heal).

 

 

 

After some post-pool quiet time, we headed up to Rehoboth Beach for dinner and Funland!  After a "death march" in extreme heat and humidity to the Dogfish Head Brew Pub - only to discover it was closed for the one time all year - we ended up having a nice dinner at Pig+Fish while we waited for Funland to open at 6.  Malcolm and I had been talking about Funland all week and he was very excited.  It did not disappoint.  Funland was perfect for them - lots of rides designed just for their age and their first exposure to arcade games and prizes - what's not to love? 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ahh, to be three and be enchanted by the overwhelming magic of a merry go round again...

 

 

 

 

Lucinda won this monkey playing a "game" that involved picking up a rubber duck in a "pond".  Everyone got a prize every time.  She wore this monkey around her neck for the next 24 hours, until it was soaked in beach grime and I had to sneak it away to be washed.  She named it Melvin.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We had a blast, although we stayed up way too late and paid for it with a rough night of sleep.  After some coffee, we hit the beach again for another fun morning.  I left the camera at home this time and just relaxed and enjoyed the day.  After we got home, Malcolm napped while Lucinda rested for a bit and then enjoyed a chance to play games with us where she could actually win without her brother throwing an epic tantrum!  Holy smokes was this girl thrilled to win Candy Land!

 

 

 

Once Malcolm woke, we played more games and colored for a bit before wrapping up the day with a home cooked meal and a quiet, relaxing evening.
